1. Capacity Development for Social Results

a. Strategic Management Consulting

  • Assess organizational strengths and weaknesses to identify areas for improvement
  • Organize and undertake analysis of issues, trends and changes, and their implications for action to ensure organizational relevance and effectiveness
  • Review and re-design governance structures, and roles and responsibilities to increase democracy, accountability and efficiency
  • Plan, organize and conduct strategic reviews and planning processes to establish direction and basis for results-achieving actions
  • Review and analyze management systems, processes and procedures to identify areas for mprovement
  • Design, test and implement more effective management systems and procedures (e.g. on recruitment, co-ordination and communication, and supervision)
  • Plan, introduce, monitor and evaluate measures to enhance staff performance and productivity
  • Review and develop effective collaboration and partnership arrangements/mechanisms that enhance overall organizational impact

b. Management Research and Analysis

  • Design and implement management surveys to capture or generate strategic information and knowledge
  • Undertake research/analysis to glean information and knowledge for decision-making and action

c. Project management

  • Plan, organize and conduct program/project needs assessments and situation analyses
  • Formulate and design programs, projects and services that achieve better results
  • Prepare "winning" project proposals or review existing ones for improvement
  • Organize and undertake evaluation of programs, projects and services

d. Grant Management

  • Serve as regional or in-country representatives of health and development donors
  • Develop and executive programs and projects on behalf of partners and donors
  • Undertake regional and in-country grant/project monitoring, management and backstopping on behalf of partners and donors
  • Administer grants and sub-grants on behalf of donors and partners

e. Conference management

  • Design, plan, organize and conduct conferences, seminars, workshops and meetings, including technical content and report preparation to meet client requirements
  • Represent donors or other clients at meetings and conferences, including making presentations and preparing reports on proceedings and recommendations, as required.

f. Recruitment and Training of Africa RH Professionals

  • Compile and update information on reproductive health professionals
  • Recruit African professionals for specified jobs/assignments
  • Design and conduct initial and refresher training courses and workshops, to develop and reinforce personnel, including training on project planning and proposal preparation

2. Increasing organization and program effectiveness

EVA: Refining the strategic planMSA focuses on increasing organizational and program effectiveness, impact and sustainability through organizational and management capacity development. Our market-driven services place emphasis on:

  • Governance and leadership development, to strengthen the institutional framework and basis for action.
  • Strategic review and planning, to build consensus for action and to set and align challenging yet realistic organizational goals and objectives, in line with environmental realities and needs.
  • Human resources development, to recruit, match and develop individuals and teams with defined roles and responsibilities in environments that encourage, motivate and support teams and the team spirit.
  • Management systems, to develop or streamline procedures, and enhance efficiency and cost-effectiveness of various accounting, administrative and procurement systems.
  • Partnership building, to encourage cooperation, coordination and collaboration, to maximize overall coverage and impact of interventions.
  • Monitoring and evaluation capacity building for learning and knowledge management.
  • Resource mobilization and sustainability planning to assist in identifying and tapping new and additional resources.

We work with public, private, and civil society organizations to develop human and organizational capability to analyze, design and implement interventions that build on successful efforts and best practice, and are appropriate to cultural and traditional sensitivities.


II. OUTPUTS AND OUTCOMES

We have identified the following outputs and outcomes to guide the monitoring and evaluation of our progress and achievements in working with our client groups.

Knowledge: A body of scientific and practical knowledge to inform organization, management and program development decisions and actions. MSA will target strategic information requirements useful to development partners and other stakeholders as well as implementers of health and development programs.

Tools and Models: Tested methods and tools for strategic management decision-making and action, and replicable models for alternative service delivery management systems. MSA will work with stakeholders, particularly program and service implementers, to analyze, research, develop, and adapt the methods, tools and models, with emphasis on operationalzing existing proven tools and models.

Best Practices: A range of best practice case studies. MSA will collaborate with stakeholders and partners to systematically identify, document and disseminate best practices at all levels and in appropriate aspects of organization development, including the areas of governance, leadership and management. Emphasis will be on best practices that take socio-cultural and environmental factors into consideration.

Documentation and Dissemination System: Innovative system for capturing and disseminating existing and new knowledge. MSA will network with collaborating institutions to strengthen the overall capacity for co-ordinated documentation and dissemination of important experience and new knowledge at regional, national and local community levels.

Technical Support: Management development and technical assistance producing quality services and products responding to strategic needs. Working with stakeholders, MSA will utilize relevant existing and new knowledge as well as models, tools and documented best practices to facilitate organizational transformation through management consulting.

Special Services to Donor & Support Organizations

  • Design and conduct strategic review and planning processes with grantees
